This integrative research project addresses the urgent need to build sustainable resilience in Taiwan in the face of multiple ongoing transitions, including climate change, industrial transformation, demographic shifts, and geopolitical risks. By synthesizing four empirical subprojects, the research encompasses (1) the systematic documentation of Taiwanese traditional farming practices and their comparison with principles of regenerative agriculture;
(2) an investigation into the learning processes and local adaptation strategies of young farmers relocating to rural areas;
(3) the analysis of compound climate and national security risks to propose collaborative governance frameworks; and
(4) the use of social network analysis to examine how global semiconductor supply chains shape corporate ESG behaviors.
Methodologically, the project integrates ethnographic fieldwork, in-depth interviews, policy analysis, and structural network approaches to develop a resilience framework grounded in local knowledge and institutional coordination.
This research aims to address pressing sustainability challenges such as the erosion of traditional ecological knowledge, limited rural support systems, and fragmented governance across risk domains. It seeks to bridge practice and policy by offering empirical insights and strategic recommendations for enhancing Taiwan’s adaptability and sustainability in an era of uncertainty. of sustainable development, rural transformation, and risk governance, positioning Taiwan as a potential model for resilience-based adaptation in other similarly situated regions.
