珊瑚復育:精準多功能人工珊瑚礁建構及環境條件評估

In recent years, the coral populations in northeastern Taiwan have significantly declined due to abnormal climate conditions, human-induced environmental destruction, and tourism activities. This area currently represents one of the most degraded coral reef habitats in Taiwan. The restoration of the coral reef environment in northeastern Taiwan is urgent and aligns with the 2021-2030 United Nations Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development, which highlights coral reef restoration as a key objective. Among the various measures implemented for coral reef restoration, the construction of artificial reefs stands out as one of the most direct and effective methods. This project aims to address the scientific issues and deficiencies associated with the construction of artificial reefs, with the goal of developing a more precise, proactive, and multifunctional next-generation artificial reef. The project encompasses several sub-projects: Sub-project 1: Establishing the conditions, methods, and procedures for assessing coral reef restoration environments. Sub-project 2: Monitoring the spatiotemporal changes in coral growth and the surrounding environment.

Sub-project 3: Developing sustainable, low-carbon, multifunctional artificial reefs and high- throughput testing systems. Sub-project 4: Investigating the relationship between biofilms and coral settlement and growth, enhancing the proactive functions of artificial reefs through biofilm manipulation. Integrating the four sub-projects, we will construct an advanced, multifunctional artificial reef system that has the potential to support coral reef restoration efforts in northeastern Taiwan effectively.

近年臺灣東北角珊瑚群受到氣候異常、人為環境破壞和觀光活動等因素大量減少,為目前臺灣珊瑚礁最差狀態生活環境地點之一,因此東北角珊瑚礁環境復育刻不容緩,而珊瑚礁復育也是 2021-2030 年聯合國海洋科學十年計畫的其中一項重點。在珊瑚礁復育各種實行措施中,建造人工礁為最直接有效的方法之一。本計畫針對各項人工礁建造上的科學問題和缺失做為研究,目標在建構一個更精準、有主動性與多功能性之下一世代的人工礁。其中包括建立評估珊瑚礁復育環境的條件、方法和流程(子計畫一),監測珊瑚生長和環境的時空變化(子計畫二)、打造以永續材料、低碳並有多功能性之人工礁和高通量測試系統(子計畫三)、研究生物膜和珊瑚入添與生長之關係,透過生物膜操作增益人工礁主動性功能(子計畫四)。
